Makuta played in Portugal – European Capital of Culture
The electroacoustic work Makuta by Chilean composer and sound artist Felipe Otondo has been selected for presentation in the second cycle of Lá nas Árvores, Levantar Voo (Take Off), a programme developed in the framework of Évora_27 – European Capital of Culture.
The open call was organised by the University of Évora, Projecto DME and Lisboa Incomum, under the artistic direction of Ana Telles. The initiative invited composers and sound artists of all nationalities and ages to submit works engaging with soundscape practices, with a particular emphasis on aerial soundscapes.
Selected works may be presented either as part of a sound installation programme, an acousmatic concert scheduled for 12 April, or both. The call accepted works of up to 10 minutes in duration, with technical specifications allowing up to four channels for installation formats and up to eight channels for concert diffusion.
The programme forms part of the broader cultural agenda linked to Évora’s designation as European Capital of Culture 2027, which aims to promote artistic experimentation, interdisciplinary collaboration and international exchange in contemporary music and sound art.
