JOJO (1998)

This piece was created as a collaboration with the Chilean theatre group ‘Telón al Sur´ inspired by the play by Michael Ende. The first part, the dream, is a rhythmic superposition of different meters under the same beat. Synthesized flutes and voices are used to create circular rhythmic variations that separate and re-group in continuous cycles.

The second part, The machines, uses one of the dramatic situations of the text by Ende in order to re-create the chaotic situation of the devastation of the circus. The tension of the situation is created by the Voices of actors and objects clashing are part of the sounds that create a tense situation. In conjunction to this sounds a prepared piano is used as a rhythmic base with small tempo variations introduced by overlapped delayed versions of the same recording slowed down or speeded up.
